Main Scheme

Eligibility & Decision Criteria

Key eligibility:

  • Nature of the Business & Structure
  • Applicants are based in the Dounreay “travel to work area”
  • Purpose of the loan

NHRF is an open programme to all but applicants MUST be able to demonstrate:

  • A funding gap exists
  • Viability of the Business
  • Potential for Growth & Employment
  • Good practice
  • Financial standing of proposed borrowing organisation

Enforcement Policy

The loans the North Highland Regeneration Fund (NHRF) make are provided by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), which is ultimately tax payer’s money.

Therefore, the North Highland Regeneration Fund has a duty to ensure that where defaults occur all reasonable steps are taken to recover the debt. In addition, the NHRF will notify Companies House and other relevant agencies where it believes inappropriate behaviour has occurred.

Accommodation Scheme

Eligibility & Decision Criteria

The Scheme Rules detail the eligibility criteria and can be downloaded here

Key eligibility:

  • Applicants must be existing or new accommodation providers in the Dounreay Travel to Work Area (Tongue – Brora)
  • A loan application must be a sound business case to either increase capacity and/or improve quality
  • All applicants must have an appropriate commercial vehicle to which funding can be delivered

Applicants MUST be able to demonstrate:

  • Viability of the business
  • Business case to increase capacity and/or improve quality linked to NC500 visitor numbers
  • Potential growth in terms of employee numbers
  • Environmental awareness and action
  • Good practice in equal opportunities
  • Digital business awareness
